Forthcoming Conferences 50th Jubilee World Conference

The theme of this Conference is “Safeguarding the Human Rights of Family Members from the Womb to the Tomb”. The human rights of children, parents, stepparents, grandparents, spouses, siblings and other family members are, too often, not recognized, or sufficiently protected, or not safeguarded at all, by legal systems.

Most State Parties have ratified international instruments, such as the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as regional conventions, such as The European Convention on Human Rights, the Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment and Eradication of Violence Against Women, the African Convention on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the African Convention on the Rights of the Child.

These instruments all advocate that human beings, adults and children alike, are entitled to have their various human rights promoted and protected in the variety of situations in which family members interact with one another, with the State and with public and private institutions.

So how and what are States doing regarding fulfilling their international and regional obligations under these Conventions? What lessons can we learn from one another? Our list of presenters comprises Professors Emeriti, eminent jurists, highly regarded practitioners from law and related disciplines and young scholars. At this conference, in this idyllic isle, popularly called, “Little England,” our eminent speakers will deliberate on these pivotal issues and current best practices.

On behalf of the International Society of Family Law, the Conference Organizing Committee, the Child Rights and Restorative Justice Organization (CRARJO) and our supporters, I look forward to welcoming you to this 17th ISFL World Conference to share your knowledge and expertise with global family members, as we strive to create a better world, one which is noted for “Safeguarding the rights of family members from the womb to the tomb.”
